Healthmateforever Pro-8ab Review: Exploring Why This Is a Great TENS Unit
Introducing the Pro-8AB
In this Healthmateforever Pro-8AB review we will talk about all of the important aspects of this little unit. It is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery, powerful and small; it also has plenty of modes and intensity levels. If that were not enough, this device is also cleared Class II, OTC, for safety and effectiveness--and there is no prescription required.
The Upgraded Pro-8AB10m
Although personally the Pro-8AB is one of my favorite tens devices--as I will explain later--there is also an upgraded version of the same model. It is called "Healthmateforever Pro-8AB10m" and it has two more modes than its predecessor (totaling ten).
Pro-8AB is the 2013 model whereas the Pro-8AB10M is the 2014 model. It doesn't look like it's available on the manufacturer website healthmateforever.com anymore.
Pro8AB HealthmateForever TENS Unit & Muscle Stimulator
2in1 Electrotherapy Device
Isolated Dual Channel
8 Pre-set TENS Modes
20 Intensity Levels
Use with 2 Pads or 4 Pads
Rechargeable Internal Lithium Battery
Eight Unique Modes
The Pro-8AB has 8 preprogrammed massage modes in the form of a rectangular design. These modes are as follows: tuina (push and pull), tapping, acupuncture, guasha (scraping), weight loss, cupping, combination, and body building. As you can see these modes are primarily based on traditional Chinese medicine principles.
I have read one review on Amazon claiming that although the modes felt more like vibrations to this individual, the acupuncture mode really did feel have the same sensation as needles.
Channels A and B
With two different frequency channels you will be able to adjust the strength for one pair of pads and then have a separate setting for the secondary pair of pads. These channels are simply called channel A and channel B. It can be very nice to have a dual channel device according to many reviews I have read.
Another thing I like about the healthmateforever Pro-8AB electrotherapy device is that the dual outputs are isolated. This means that both channels have equal 100% power without the need to reduce strength in half.
There are 20 different levels of intensity with this device. This is a pretty good range because it means that each increase or decrease in intensity is relatively minor. Devices with fewer intensity levels may make it difficult for you to find that perfect level--instead, one might be too strong, while the one down might be too weak.
The Pro-8AB Is Easy to Use
For the most part it looks like the Pro-8AB is relatively easy to use, as I have seen little to no reviews complaining about the device being confusing or otherwise difficult. One of the few issues I noticed dealing with ease of use was the snap electrodes.
Some people may not like snap electrodes as they can lead to frayed or damaged pads if not careful. One reviewer also suggested using a rubber band to tie up the extra length of the leads if it becomes an issue while you are moving about the house.
This pocket tens unit for pain relief has an adjustable 10-60 minute timer and it has an animated backlit LCD display that is easy to read. The user manual, educational reference booklet, and placement point chart are helpful and informative. I think the instructions are pretty clear.
Dimensions and Portability
With a weight of only 1.0oz, and a size of 1.75 inches in length and 3.5 inches in width, this rechargeable tens machine is extremely small. One reviewer said that they were surprised to see the device was even smaller than an iPod and doubted whether it could have any power being so tiny.
The good news is that despite being so little the Pro-8AB packs a lot of punch. It is extremely powerful, small, and also quite portable given its size.
Another thing that makes this device great for portability is that it comes in a hard cardboard storage box with magnetized lid and a cord wrap.
The battery is one of my other favorite qualities of this electric therapy machine.
There are actually three different ways to charge this device. The most attractive way is to use the lithium batteries, either by;
- 1) plugging the device into a computer with a USB cable (which comes with the device)
- 2) using an AC adapter (also included)
- 3) simply plugging it into your wall.
If, for whatever reason, these two options with the lithium battery don't appeal to you or aren't convenient--you can also use AAA or AA batteries. These are, of course, standard batteries that you can purchase at any store.
From the reviews I have read it looks like the battery lasts a pretty decent period of time. Those who have purchased the device say that it doesn't take long to charge but lasts a very long time--in fact even days. To be more specific it appears that the battery will last for up to ten hours.
Included in the Box
When you receive your Pro-8AB tens ems device you will also get: one placement point chart; two pairs of snap-on adhesive electrode pads; two electrode leads; one free illustrated educational reference booklet; one USB extension wire, charging from computer; one AC adapter, charging from wall outlet; one pad sticking and wire rewinding holder; one instruction manual; and finally a lifetime warranty card.
I have heard that these pads are not very durable, but it is easy to buy replacement pads.
Now let's talk about all of the fun extras and accessories you can add to the Pro-8AB. Although these items don't come with the unit when you purchase it, you can buy whatever accessories are suited to your needs.
- Conductive Knee Support
- Flex Belt
- Massage Shoes
- Conductive Gloves and Socks
- Conductive Wrist/Ankle Wrap
- Conductive Knee/Elbow Wrap
- Conductive Ankle Support Wrap
- Conductive Elbow Support Wrap
- Conductive Leg Support wrap
- Conductive Wrist Support Wrap
This a stretchable and adjustable supportive knee brace. It may be used with the Pro-8AB to send electrical pulses into the knee.
Also compatible with the Pro-8AB, the multi-belt is a great product for targetting shoulders, legs, arms, lower back, and abs. It is good for pain relief and relaxation.
There are many functions that this accessory can evidently do. If applied to the stomach it can help issues like constipation, diarrhea, and it can aid in weight loss. It can also be used to tone abdomen muscles.
If you have arthritis, sore feet, or feet pain, these massage shoes can help. The product is great for heel pain relief, achilles tendinitis treatment, and peoneal tendonitis.
These gloves and socks are not only conductive but can be used with this electronic nerve stimulator. These are really good for people who are suffering from arthritis pain, achilles tendonitis, sore feet, and carpal tunnel.
This snap-on accessory comes with two bands per pair and every band is three inches. This is another extra you can add to the Pro-8AB.
Each snap-on wrap is 9.5 inches long and each pair comes with two sleeves. This wrap is great for those who are experiencing pain in their arms.
This accessory has dual side stabilizers and it is adjustable and stretchable. The ankle brace can be utilized for pain relief as well as support. If you are experiencing pain in your ankle(s) this accessory could help you.
This wrap can also help with both support and pain relief in the area of the elbow. Recently the wrap has become usable with the Pro-8AB.
If you need support in one or both of your legs, and/or you are experiencing pain, this is a great accessory to use with this healthmateforever massager.
This wrap will provide you with maximum support to protect your injured arm, and it can also prevent reinjury. It is adjustable and stretchable to aid in both pain relief and support, and can be used as an accessory to the Pro-8AB.
If more than one of these accessories looks attractive or useful to you then you also have the option of bundling if you so choose. For example, you could bundle the conductive wrist/ankle band, socks, gloves, knee/elbow wrap, two pairs of large rectangular pads, and dual lead wires for your Pro-8AB.
A bundle such as this would be beneficial for tendinitis knees, golfer's elbow, ankle sprains, carpal tunnel pain relief, and sore feet relief.
I have seen very few other electronic pain relief devices that are included with a lifetime guarantee. This limited lifetime warranty is included with all products sold by Healthmateforever. The Pro-8AB is great because it is not only cheap it also has this fantastic warranty.
The best price you may find for the Pro8-AB is on amazon.com. On Ebay the device sells for between $120-$140 and on healthmateforever.com it can be found for $299.99. It can also be found on amazon.ca for those who are in Canada. It was not available at Walmart, Walgreens, or overstock.com.
The biggest issue that I noticed involved the electrodes which sometimes prove to be defective after several uses. Some Healthmateforever reviews have also said that the connector can snap or break. The good news is that electrodes and connectors can both be replaced quite easily.

The Bottom LineFor the most part the reviews for this healthmateforever tens unit have been quite positive. It is not too surprising that there are a few minor complaints about the Pro-8AB, as it, like other tens devices, is small and fragile. Overall this device has stellar reviews--in fact, it is one of the best and highest rated units currently on the market.
